Cnoc Soilleir is a joint venture between Ceòlas and UHI North West and Hebrides, making Uist a better place to live and work.
Our shared vision is a home for learning placed in the heart of the community, bringing people together and integrating student and local facilities.
Cnoc Soilleir is where everyone can engage with and learn from the wider Gaelic culture, including language and associated arts, and heritage, with music at the heart of many of our activities.
Cnoc Soilleir, meaning Bright Hill, is both the name of the building and the name of the place, nestled on a bend in Daliburgh, South Uist.

Cnoc Soilleir has been 20 years in the making and consists of two phases.
Uist Unearthed
Cnoc Soilleir is home to the archaeology staff working on Uist Unearthed.
The Uist Virtual Archaeology Project is delivered by UHI North, West and Hebrides Archaeology staff, in partnership with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.

Mission Statement
Cnoc Soilleir shall operate for public benefit to:
- Advance formal education, research and other training and learning opportunities, particularly relating to the language and creative arts of Gaelic speaking communities, including, without limitation, music, song and dance;
- Advance Gaelic arts, heritage and culture including, without limitation, music, song and dance; and
- Advance education, arts, heritage, culture and citizenship or community development through the provision of opportunities for students and visitors, primarily to South Uist and more widely to the Western Isles, to engage with the local community, including fluent Gaelic speakers and tradition bearers that promote and celebrate local culture and heritage.
